Fall Ceilidh and Silent Auction

York County Community Action Corporation (YCCAC) will hold its 2nd Annual Fall Ceilidh and Silent Auction on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport. A ceilidh—pronounced Kay-lee, from the Gaelic—refers to a social event with Irish and Scottish folk music, singing and traditional dancing. Our ceilidh brings together people of all ages from across York County for a night of dance, song, food and drink, storytelling and celebration. The traditional Irish dance music band Boghat, based in Portland, provides the music, and a “dance caller” leads our guests through the various dance steps. The silent auction begins at 6:00 p.m. and features 18 baskets with three, four, or five items each. A typical basket might contain an overnight stay at a Kennebunkport hotel, tickets for two to a nearby theatre or show, and two bottles of wine with wine glasses. All proceeds from the event will support the York County Community Action Corporation programs that most benefit elders in our community—namely, Health Services, Transportation, and Fuel Assistance. Last year, we raised $8,800 at the event. Our goal this year is $10,000. With $10,000 we can . . . • Provide 52 seniors with commonly prescribed medicines for 3 months. • Deliver emergency heating fuel to 49 low-income York County households in which seniors reside. • Pay for 2,000 meals delivered to seniors living at home. • Pay for 3 months of home care aid for 12 seniors. • Provide regular transport for 86 seniors to medical, dental, or behavioral health appointments for 3 months.
