ART HOPE 1000 Healing Cranes – Ogunquit Museum of American Art

Create origami at the annual community gathering to celebrate creative wellness and the last Sunday of the season at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art. Learn to fold a classic paper crane. In Japanese tradition, the iconic symbol is a wish for hope, peace, health and well-being, and 1000 is a blessing for good luck. Origami is an expressive medium for art-making, art-taking, and art-giving. Wellness benefits include improved agility and memory, active brain-eye-hand functioning, the confidence of learning a creative skill, and stress reduction through mindfulness. Each crane is a whimsical work of art. This event is an on-going project of the Art HOPE Youth Service in Health Care Program involving local student volunteers who fold cranes throughout the year for York Hospital Cancer Care patients and community members living with longterm illness.
